Sexylook Strawberry Blackhead Pore Cleanser Set

Review: Sexylook Strawberry Blackhead Pore Cleanser Set

On my mission to achieving perfect skin, one of the skin problems faced by many is no different for me - blackheads and whiteheads. Most of them sits around the nose and chin area, and they look unsightly.

Today's product review would be on Sexylook Strawberry Blackhead Pore Cleanser Set. What caught my attention were the amount of products to deliver the promise of blackhead removal.

Let's walk through the steps!

1) Sebum Softener

This product is supposed to penetrate into your skin and allow easy removal for blackheads, and whatnot. I was actually half expecting the product to work like Cure Natural Aqua Gel or marvel gels that slough off the older layer of skin but, turns out not!

From the naked eye, the transparent and watery liquid did nothing to our skin after 2-3 minutes of massaging.

2) Purifying Mask

Now to the king of the suite, spread a reasonable amount and leave it for 30 minutes. We spread it along the nose region to reach as many blackheads as possible. Brown had some on the chin area.

I was surprised at the colour of the mix. It has a thick gooey consistency, baby pink in colour and smells like something from a candy confectionery. That's okay with us cause anyway it stays on only for 30 minutes.

And now, the waiting game.

3) Purifying Essence

This is almost akin to the Sebum Softener. However, I see visible effects after application. Not sure if it's placebo effect or anything, but it feels almost like a toner on the skin. Fresh and velvety skin it promises, fresh and velvety skin it delivers.

So, as of every review, there is a verdict.

Not sure how well you can make out from these pictures but... I tried.

Price: NT $299 works out to be around SGD $13++

Overall: ⋆⋆⋆⋆

I can't say I am left extremely impressed, that's because Sexylook's range of masks have raised a bar in terms of expectations, but this one does a decent job. Not perfect but compliments to the extensiveness of prepping and protecting the skin after a peel-off session. Not too sure about continuity of usage though, because marvel gel delivers a similar effect fairly quick.

City Square, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

In the very last of the previous post, I mentioned about JB and I am back with a spanking new post about City Square, Johor Bahru. I can't proclaim I am a know-it-all when it comes to JB because god knows the amount of day trips Singaporeans take to Malaysia every single day.

Anyway, my memories of JB is backdated to at least 5 years back, which was the last time I step foot into City Square for Stonegrill.

This time we went straight in without expectations. In actuality, its in name of taking time off work.

We started from the top level of City Square and noticed a new, spacious food court cafe chic-like interior.

We shopped around and I realized some of the brands like Truimph is about 20% cheaper than in Singapore. I got a bag from Mango Touch and paid around SGD $63 while it costs SGD $69 back home. The rest of the smaller apparel shops are not exactly fashion forward so we mostly watch out for brands.

Here are my loots:

Back home, NARUKO is only available in Watson's store but having a walk in store meaning more variety and possibly cheaper prices, since we are talking in terms of exchange rate. I usually get my skincare fix at Qoo10 but this time my moisturizer got lost in the mail and I ran out of mine. Thus I have NARUKO's in exchange for moisturized skin. Price range is between SGD $20 to $30 for this product I singled out, and a pore-minimizing moisturizer sounds awesome.

I will try and squeeze some time for a review, okay?

Apart from shopping, food is also our priority. We settled for dinner at Canton-I for some dim sum.

For recollection sake, we had a total of:

1) Four plates of noodles (choice of 2 meats such as roasted pork belly, char siew, chicken ecetera)
2) 3 baskets of salted egg yolk buns
3) 2 baskets of siew mai
4) 1 chee cheong fun
5) 1 plate of fried prawn dumplings
6) 1 plate of beancurd wrap
7) 2 drinks

It is sufficient for 4 people, and the bill came up to only SGD $18 nett per person, and we were sold. Anyway most of the food are average or better and definitely considered cheap. I can't single out a dish that is exceptionally good or bad, but overall experience is satisfying. (Food serving came fast too.)

In the later part we walked pass Dragon-I, the parent company of Canton-I and saw extra large xiao long bao with a straw raised from the center! We look forward to try those out on the next trip.

We stopped by Hui Lau Shan for some sweet treats:

Macaron from Lavender Bakery:

Here's the SGD $2 Pizza Hut pizza I have been telling people about! I wish I have extra stomach space to contain more of these...

There is a new mall located beside City Square by the name of Komtar JBCC so we went in to find reasons to spend money on. (That is where the pizza came from.)

We walked in a 3CE store, got nothing in exchange for money and moved on. The variety is limited and there isn't anything for us.

I also managed to check out Charles & Keith and prices were much higher than in Singapore probably because it is a Singaporean brand? Sephora items came in slightly cheaper though.

For a happy ending, we top our trip off with a few rounds of Lasertag and skipped movies since it was the first time for all of us. Although the game rules were simple and foolproof, there were a fair bit of workout for our lazy bones. It was fun while it lasted.

Alright, there you have it, that's my combination of food, shopping and fun in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. I hope most of you gained some tips. Remember to dress down, and if anything fails, there is $2 pizza!

OVALE Body Treatment (Lulur Bali Milk)

Review: OVALE Body Treatment (Lulur Bali Milk)

Today's review would be on one of the scrubs I got from my short trip to Batam. We have always enjoyed groceries shopping and Batam's supermarkets has a couple of good buys.

Scrubs are one of the must-buys in Batam and they are unbelievably cheap. I have got about 4 in total and here they are:

Today's focus:

Before:

After:

Price: Prices of most scrubs I came across were ranged from SGD $1 to $2.50. I cannot recall the exact price of this scrub.

Texture: Creamy with sporadic, sparse scrubbing beads.

Scent: I was taken aback by the scent as it smells nothing like milk! It smells closer to jasmine flowers and it is overpowering for my liking.

Overall: ⋆⋆⋆
Effect is visible and more moisturizing I imagined. It does brighten the skin as promised,  but the scent does not appeal to me. I would reconsider purchasing but definitely not in this particular scent.

Angels Soufflene Primer

Review: Angels Soufflene Primer

Of the late, I have been on a lookout for primers to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. I am guilty of extracting my blackheads and pimples, which left unsightly enlarged pores on my skin. Speaking of which I am considering skin treatment/laser but that for another day.

I am delighted to find a primer that works really well when I was shopping at drugstores in Japan. It works on my hand and I am excited to try it on my face. Last I remember, it is priced at about SGD $20.

Before:

After:

With makeup:

Price: Regardless of the size, the price is very reasonable for a product which cover flaws well.

Texture: The formula is non-greasy and light, which glides easily on skin. I only apply them to my cheeks which is the area I have enlarged pores. It does not have the glowing skin effect some primers have but I am not concern about it. It produces a velvety effect and the mattify effect is commendable!

Coverage: The coverage is great as well. It erases some of the pores but not entirely. I have come to terms with the fact that there is only this much makeup can do, good skin is still important as the foundation. Upon application of my Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion, my skin appears much smoother and softer.

Overall: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
I am very pleased with this product, it is excellent in my books.

Kose Clear Turn Masks & Kracie Hadabisei 3D Mask

Review: Japanese Masks

As the Korean wave caught on, I was introduced to Korean skincare and makeup. I can say I am an fan of Korea's Leader's Clinic Masks, which I have been straight re-buying ever since the first usage.

My favorite masks from Leader's Clinic would be Mela-tox and Vita Bright. I really appreciate the non-dripping formula and how snugly it fits on the face without having to smooth air pockets all the time.

I bought 3 different facial masks from my trip.

The first one which caught my eye is the Kose Clear Turn Collagen Facial Mask because they were in every shop and positioned prominently.

Fit: Personally, I find the mask sheet slightly on the larger side as compared to the Korean counterparts, thus it does not fit best on my face. There were eye cutouts for the eyelids, unlike other masks I have used but I can't say I like them very much because I enjoy multitasking while having my mask on.

Moisture: Moisture level is fine, sufficient but definitely not as generous as the Leader's mask, which has a great amount of essence. The essence is quite runny and more akin to daily toners, or Kose's skincare lotion less the alcohol. It is not thick and gooey like Leader's.

Effect: Effect is subtle. I do feel my skin got slightly clearer after application but effect is not obvious.

⋆⋆⋆
Overall:
I have read about some raves on the aforementioned mask but from experience, the effect does not show up on my skin as much. I feel quite neutral about this product, but not sure about re-buying.

The next mask I got was the Kracie Hadabisei 3D Aging Moisturizer Facial Mask, simply because I overheard a Chinese tourist asking for this particular mask and she sounds like she knows her stuff.

Fit: The mask is folded into half and placed in the packaging, with two tabs by the side for easy application. The bottom of the mask is wide enough to reach areas underneath the chin. Despite it's size, the mask sits well on the face.

Moisture: Out of the 3 masks, this is the one with the best texture and amount of essence. The essence is thick and moisturizing enough to spread on the entire face.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Effect: I was amazed by the effect I was seeing. My skin looks plumped and well nourished right after I removed the mask.

Overall:
Although this mask is more pricey compared to the two others I bought and tried, the results are more visible and I wished I had bought more of these. I would not hesitate to buy them again if they are available.

I picked Kose Clear Turn Babyish Facial Masks because the packaging appears compact and luggage friendly thus I decided to give it a try.

Fit: The fit is close to Kose Clear Turn Collagen Facial Mask I have tried and is quite mediocre.

Moisture: I was disappointed by the amount of lotion the masks was soaked in. It is a bit too dry for my liking and I find myself pouring the excess from the package and reapplying.

Effect: The effect appears somewhat similar to the Kose Clear Turn Collagen Facial Mask. In my opinion, lotion masks are more suitable for everyday use but probably not good enough for people with drier skin.

⋆⋆
Overall:
I cannot recommend this mask to someone who needs something more heavy duty because the lotion is light and the mask is pretty dry. I personally prefer moisturizing masks and those which has more visible effects.
